Tres has practiced law in New York since 2006, with a focus on music and IP transactions. Tres works with music and media companies, entrepreneurs and startups, and artists and managers, having negotiated hundreds of deals including management and recording agreements, licenses, production agreements, media buys and other general negotiation. Tres began his legal career in Business & Legal Affairs at Zomba / Jive Records in 2000 (later Sony BMG). In 2008, he became General Counsel of music startup Thumbplay and was head of Business Affairs for iHeartMedia from 2011 through 2020. Tres received his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School.

Tres is co-founder and trustee of We Are All Music, dedicated to saving lives through music, using its Music First Aid Kit, a program to train first responders, teachers, parents and health professionals to use music to improve mental health outcomes. Tres is also on the advisory board of Musicians On Call and Jazz House Kids, and is an Elder on Session of the Presbyterian Church of Upper Montclair.

Tres loves mentoring and teaching, and is currently Adjunct Professor at Appalachian State University, where he teaches Legal Issues in the Music Industry (MUS 3423), a required course for all Music Industry Studies majors.

In life, Tres's main focus is his family and local community. Tres lives in Montclair, New Jersey with his wife, three kids and mother-in-law, and spends every spare moment with his young children. He regularly volunteers for Montclair Emergency Services for Hope ("MESH"), an organization serving food and housing insecure people in Montclair, and other local charities. Tres is also a cub scout den leader for the mighty Pack 12, where he co-leads the annual scout Christmas tree sale. He hosts a weekly hang for the neighborhood on Sundays during football season in the famous "football shack" in his backyard.
